The 7 Spheres of Influence in Society
(Formerly known as: The 7 Mountains of influence)
Jesus prayed in Matthew 6:9-10
“Our Father in heaven…Your Kingdom come. Your will be done – on earth as it is in Heaven.”
That is an all-inclusive prayer. But many do not realize the healthy version of this starts with us, personally. How do we achieve and realize in this world: “Your will be done – on earth as it is in Heaven”?
- What are we made of, according to Genesis 2:7? “Earth”.
- Where do we have authority and ability to let someone’s will be done and make decisions first? Ourselves! – using our own free will.
- Who does Jesus call to change our thinking to think and then act correctly Mark 1:14-15? Us.
- Does Jesus call us, to personally, first fully obey all He commanded? Yes.
Please read Matthew 28:18-20. When we have managed to make positive changes in our lives due to good decisions – with the Help of our mighty Helper, the Holy Spirit, Who comes to live in us when we are born-again by His Spirit – then we can, in a healthy, humble, broken, yet incomplete, gentle, wise way (Matthew 7:3-5), help others make similar healthy life-giving decisions – starting with the most important one – to be reconciled to the Father, through the blood, suffering, death, burial, and resurrection of the Son, and the gentle non-manipulative super-power of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus wants the fullness of His Kingdom to come, the fullness of His will to be done in and through us all everywhere. He wants all people everywhere to have Him as Best Deeply beloved Friend and King in their heart. Receiving Jesus’ forgiveness, life, and love enables the Holy Spirit to enter into people – then they are born-again, they are made children of God through that decision of humility and recognition. The Kingdom of God consists of people who realized: I cannot, myself, fix this problem of missing the mark of practicing perfect love for God, others and myself (Mark 12:28-31).
This deep transformation of Jesus being King internally and His Holy Spirit living and working and influencing us who are born-again Christians, internally – naturally leads to self-willed and self-desired un-forced transformation into a much better more loving, free, patient healthy, humble, gentle, moral, truthful, justice-seeking, bold and courageous, graceful, wise, and merciful person internally – which of course transforms that person’s ways of doing whatever they are doing to the better externally as well. And even add on top of that character transformation – the power of the Holy Spirit to heal the sick, deliver people from evil Spirits, and the power to raise the dead, prophesy etc. Now that changes and challenges things on earth to look more like Heaven!!
When Holy Spirit is not grieved
People full of the Spirit of God are influenced internally by the Spirit of God – Who as a Person is – friendship, respect, love, truth, honor, respect, freedom, justice, forgiveness, goodness, grace, gentle, humble, life, light – see a much longer list of all the characteristics of God.

These God-qualities, personality traits, and characteristics flow from someone who has chosen to believe in the resurrected right now living Master, Boss, King, and Lord Jesus Christ, and who have then chosen to let themselves be transformed – truly changed – from the inside out by the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Thereby we become Kingdom of God influencers.
The Warning of Jesus Against The Idol of Politics And Power
Jesus warned to be careful of the leaven of Herod (Mark 8:15). What is that? Getting all the right politics and politicians in place is not the primary solution to the actual biggest and deepest problems of this world. Legislation is not the first and most important expression of His will. Conversion is. We must be careful, while we fully do believe in and act on bringing all of the goodness of Heaven to all places on earth, not to be distracted with any of the 7 spheres of influence (or anything else) and get our priorities wrong. Our deepest problem as humans, and the biggest problem with the world is that we are lost sheep, away from the Father – if we do not personally choose to receive His forgiveness and love, and this world is under a curse of death.
The curse of death will last until Jesus returns and creates a new Heaven – and a new earth. The solution personally is the best decision forever – which is for all to now run into the love of the Father, the love of the Son, and the love of the Holy Spirit, that we would all identify with what Jesus bought for us with His suffering, blood, death, burial, and resurrection: that we are best Friends of God now. That is THE solution now to personally fix as much of this world as possible. That solution heals and restores our spirits, souls, hearts, & bodies from the inside out. Therein, the true intimate friendship of God, lie the meaning and purpose of life. Therefore, it is missing the first priority to first think we need to fix the world through better behavior, better performance, better laws, better politics and politicians.
All that is good and important – but internal heart transformation through reconciliation – peace – with God – is forever number 1 for all forever. Just like a healthy child should know they are always completely loved by their parents – not more or less – if they perform well or not. That love leads to good healthy identity of love, peace, joy, freedom – and from there – good healthy performance according to ability.
So: Will that internal amazing grace of the Holy Spirit in us as we allow Him and obey and submit to His loving ways and commands have external consequences & make us better friends, spouses, parents, colleagues, citizens, and workers? YES! Or something is really wrong and must be fixed.
Kingdom Influence Everywhere
Will that life change lead us to want to bring more of the wonderful character of the King who loves us all passionately into the 7 spheres of influence? YES. Of course. We should all want to bring more justice, truth, love, peace, joy, grace, restoration, smarter solutions, etc. to this world. We were made in the image of God – who is this – so it is natural to try to live out who we are made to be. But the fullness of all fullnesses of who we are – is – of course – best lived out via choosing to let the intimate friendship with Him, whom we were created by, be fully restored. The good message is – that the problem of sin is already fixed – will you believe, receive it, acknowledge it, live in it passionately daily acting on the eternal truth it? Having Dealt With Priorities And The Idols
It is then, interesting to think: How would these characteristics look as they influence people more and more (never perfectly – always brokenly) – and those people influence different areas of society for good for all?
Just like there are 5 different ministry gifts of Jesus, the apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher, who each represent a part of the fullness of Christ, so the 7 spheres of influence help define areas of society where we – who want to represent the kindness, gentleness, goodness, love, truth, and justice of the King & Kingdom because we live on earth as His best friends, He lives in us – we want to best influence thinking, practice, ideas, strategies, laws, and policies around us.
So, a list of the 7 defined areas that covers all areas – to help us approach the areas according to what happens in each, so that we do not just say – “all of it”. This is a way to help define society as a whole in smaller sections, these are 7 spheres of influence where we as truly born-again Christian believers want to see the will of Heaven influence earth:
- Faith
- Family
- Education
- Government (legislative, judicial, executive)
- Business
- Media
- Entertainment
As we are influenced by the Holy Spirit – we then influence our world as much as we can by His power, wisdom, grace, truth, and honor.
Practically what could all of this look like?
- Having the absolute foundation in place – written above. That all followers of Jesus are first disciples who are to be transformed, healed, set free, and trained to do, and enabled to do and doing all that Jesus did, and which His 12 (Matt 10), and His 70 did (Luke 10).
- Then we navigate into and communicate with the culture we are in (1 Cor 9:19-23) – and we influence everywhere, as we are led by the Spirit, with who we are in Christ – the section of society we are in.
- We do this by leading all the people we can to faith in Jesus.
- We do this outliving Christian morals and character by the power of the Holy Spirit – and by the power of signs, wonders, and miracles – surrendering completely to His leading.
- We then also seek to influence laws, cultural practices, policies, habits etc. with the good, loving, righteous and just laws of love, life, light, truth, freedom, joy, creativity, and honor from the Kingdom of Heaven.
How could this be made 100% tangible?
- Where Christians go – they heal the sick, prophesy, cast out demons, raise the dead, and lead people to experience peace (reconciliation), and intimate friendship with God through Jesus Christ. All the saints trained to “do the work of the ministry” (Eph 4:11-13).
- As stable, honorable, intelligent, truth-filled, wisdom-filled individuals, who are able to evaluate and judge what is good, right, loving, just, and honorable, we enable people, structures, laws, procedures, work cultures, rules, principles, interactions, relationships, and machinery, to be better and stronger in the midst of the challenges of life.
- For instance: Born-again Christians can literally write books and manuals, scientific, logical, wise, considerate, and loving to achieve helping display more of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.
- For instance: Born-again Christians can literally help write and put laws in place that promote life, love, help, freedom, justice, honor, fairness, protection etc.
- For instance, this can be, how do we achieve:
- Integration of healing, prophesy, inner healing, deliverance, baptism of the Holy Spirit, and friendly accountability / obedient discipleship directly under Jesus into the public sector (judicial, legislative, executive) into both the educational sector as well as the health sector?
- What if police officers did healthy deliverance on people full of demons on top of the good, loving, fair justice they do today?
- What if nurses & doctors did healing & deliverance on patients needing that – as well as what they do well today?
- What if lawyers knew the truth, justice of God & the Holy Spirit?
- What if politicians knew the wisdom, and the future as God saw it and knows it?
- What if psychologists knew how to lead people to the love of the Father. The deepest inner healing possible?
- What if business owners as well as employees first served God – and treated all as fellow children of God? What if all saw themselves as first being accountable to serve God and love God – and then to promote love, humility, hard work by grace, joy, fairness and justice in all things? (Ephesians 6:5-8, 1 Timothy 6:1-2, Colossians 3:22-25, Titus 2:9-15)
Valid questions
Are these goals big? Yes, they are God-sized. So, it is possible. Nothing is impossible to those who believe nor to God. We are supposed to think it & then do it.
Will we achieve “perfection” in it on earth? No – but we will, should & must go for it – with a passion – emulating and imitation the Lord Jesus Christ in all things first.
Will there be ridicule, misunderstandings and even persecution? Yes – there was for Jesus and His followers – so there will be for us when we go for it. It will require perseverance, faith, persistence, wisdom, humility, patience, suffering, & brokenness. Mature tested character is needed.
It will require the aggregate efforts of many godly, humble, set free, loving obedient to Jesus first people working together.
This is not about forcing people to do anything – but a matter of freely self-chosen faith, health, freedom, life, justice, true love of obedience etc.
Dangers and warnings
- That politics and laws become violent and forceful against people who do not believe. The laws should provide freedom – liberty for all – based on as much real intimate friendship with God, truth, love, life, justice, restoration, help, honor and responsibility as possible.
- That politics, laws, and politicians take the place of God becoming an idol, a false god and solution in the place of Christ and His cross, a thing that is put up higher than repentance from dead works and trusting in Jesus (Hebrews 6:1-2) – and the direct relationship with the King of Kings. We were not made to live without Jesus as our direct King, and very best friend, brother, and Master.
